THE DISCOVERY OF THE BLUE MEANIE MUSHROOM

This particular mushroom is native to southern Australia, though some believe it may have origins elsewhere as well. THE GROWTH CHARACTERISTICS OF BLUE MEANIE MUSHROOMS

When discovered growing wild, the caps of these mushrooms are frequently light brown at first, becoming white as they age. White speckles are common on the caps, and many adult caps seem ‘cracked.’ Because the flesh is thin, it bruises readily and acquires a characteristic cyan blue hue when injured. Its stem, or stipe, is thick and tends to be longer and thinner than others, measuring 6 to 12 centimeters in length. Pin sets, flushes, relatively short colonization periods, and a farinaceous odor are all characteristics of these mushroom spores.
